Caregiver
The Frenchtown Center for Active Adults, with the support of "Gabby's Ladder", offers "The Caregiver Support Group" This group meets the 2nd and 4th Monday each the month, 1:00 P.M. (Craft Room) – (Next meeting is June 10 with the Center being closed for Memorial Day on May 27th). You can read our monthly newsletter and see our calendar for meeting dates. This group provides quality information, support, and resources for family caregivers of adults with chronic physical or cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, stroke, Parkinson’s, and other illnesses.
Helping Caregivers through Education
The Area Agency on Aging 1B provides a series of educational opportunities for Caregivers. One of those programs is the Powerful Tools for Caregivers a program designed to help family caregivers in southeast Michigan and metro Detroit take care of themselves while caring for an aging or disabled relative or friend.
In partnership with the Area Agency on Aging 1B the Frenchtown Center for Active Adults has offers this program. Classes meet once a week for 6 weeks. Each class is an hour and 30 minutes long. While the caregiver attends classes the love one enjoys the benefit of the Dementia Adult Day program. Even though the program is always available for a visit, the class provides a wonderful opportunity for both the caregiver and their loved one to experience the program firsthand.
