Volunteers
Volunteers are very important for the success of the Center. Several people of all ages volunteer their time and talent. A majority of the volunteers are registered with the RSVP program of Monroe County. RSVP volunteers earn a meal allowance and mileage while they volunteer their time. Volunteers help in a variety of ways.
Volunteers are needed for Bingo on Friday afternoons and also as a Greeter. Contact Lisa Ghigliazza.

2019 Volunteers of The Year
Larry and Sheila Barstad |
Staff has unanimously chosen Larry and Sheila Barstad as the 2019 volunteers of the year. It is the first time in recent memory a husband and wife were selected for the award. They were instrumental in reorganizing our Spring and Fall rummage sale. They spent countless hours individually pricing every item we received, and many more hours setting things up. It was the first time we had things overflowing into the lobby because the bingo room was busting at the seams. Larry spent hours researching similar items on eBay or the garage sale website to ensure he would get the best price. Our fall 2019 rummage sale shattered any previous total. While they weren’t working on the rummage sale, they helped with bingo. Calling or running numbers. They are both dedicated volunteers. Their willingness to give staff a hand anytime they were asked is only matched by a few others.
This recognition was meant to be shared in a more celebratory manner at our 2021 volunteer dinner. Unfortunately, Larry passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at home under hospice care. We will miss his friendly smile and kindhearted laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheila, their children, his brothers, and sisters, and especially his grandkids. We all have our special memory of Larry, mine will be of his relentless search for a yet to be identified item from our 2019 rummage sale. Whatever it was, he sold it. Godspeed on your new journey our friend. |

Newsletter Mailing volunteers gather once at the end of each month to help with labeling and sorting the 750+ newsletters that are mailed to our members on a monthly basis. The mailing date for the upcoming month is listed on the activities page of the Center newsletter. The project runs from about 8:30am to 10am. You are welcome to walk in and help at any time.

Rummage Sale volunteers are needed to help with our annual rummage. This year's sale (2023) will be held on May 16 - 19, 2023. Volunteers help with set up and then staffing the checkout booth at the sale. No experience needed. This is one of the best opportunities for meeting fellow members at the Center.
