Purpose of Dementia Adult Day Services
- Reduce the isolation of frail older persons by offering a safe, support group environment.
- Maintaining the person’s highest level of functioning and preventing further decline.
- Restoring a person’s level of functioning to his/her highest level
- Foster socialization and peer interaction.
- Support family caregivers with respite, education, support, and other related assistance.
What does the Program Cost?
The Dementia Adult Day Service programs are usually operated by non-profit organizations which apply for state, federal, and county senior millage funds to keep cost to families low. Also, program cost are based on income. The Dementia Adult Day Care at the Frenchtown Center for Active adults works diligently with families to control these costs and accepts donations from participants.
As an authorized provider of service for the Veterans Administration, veterans and their families are encouraged to contact the VA to see what funding is available.

The Association suggest that use of an adult day center begin when a prospective enrollee needs supervision and:
- can no longer structure his or her own daily activities;
- finds it difficult to initiate and focus on an activity, e.g. reading, conversation, watching television;
- is isolated and lonely or desires peer interaction;
- cannot be safely left alone;
- lives with someone who works and is away from the home most of the day;
- is anxious or depressed and needs social and emotional support;
- feels uncertain and anxious when left alone;
- requires attention that leads to your own anxiety, frustration, compromised health and/or depression.
