Surprise Entertainment
The World Senior Citizen's Day is celebrated on August 21st each year.
The celebration took place for the first time in 1991. On August 21, National Senior Citizens Day recognizes the achievements of the more mature representatives of our nation. The day provides an opportunity to show our appreciation for their dedication, accomplishments, and services they give throughout their lives.

On Friday, February 6, there was plenty of movin' and groovin' as folks came out to enjoy the 2nd annual Snowball Dance. It was a fun-filled night, so much so that people kept insisting the DJ do a repeat encore. Alas, the night eventually came to an end. We want to thank those who came out, our volunteers for their help, and the team at Frenchtown for putting together another enjoyable event that folks won't soon forget.

In addition to the winners, we had quite an assortment of very creative Halloween Costumes. Let us not forget those amazing treats, there were so many mouthwatering to choose from no wonder people were slow going through the line. Thanks to everyone for going all out and making this another memorable event.
We also want to extend our appreciation to the Lake Eerie Hexenbrut Witches for spending the afternoon with us. It is always a treat and maybe a few tricks because they always provide some fantastic entertainment. Thank you.
September Car and Craft Show
The Car & Craft Show on September 14th was well attended, with 62 vehicles registered and 24 crafters. It featured a variety of metal works, including motorcycles, a monster coupe utility, and an old Ford Model Police Paddy Wagon, which was a crowd favorite. Many vendors offered all kinds of unique items. The kitchen served some fantastic food that everyone enjoyed. The weather was perfect this time, and everything went smoothly—couldn’t ask for more.

The entire team at Frenchtown Center for Active Adults, especially the Adult Day Service program, wants to thank everyone who attended our Car & Craft Shows
and look forward to more in 2026. A special thanks to our friends at “The Baker Barn” in Carleton for their help, suggestions, and friendship. What an amazing group of people and what they do for our community!
2025 Pig Roast and Annual Meeting
There was plenty of good food, friendship, and laughter at our annual meeting and pig roast. The “Frenchtown’s Got Talent” show brought Tina Turner out of retirement. Along with Ike and the Ikettes, Tina strutted her stuff and had the fans hoot and hollerin. All in all, everyone had a great time, and the food, as always, was exceptional. Thanks to everyone who turned out to make it another successful event. Special thanks to those who chose to participate in the “Frenchtown’s Got Talent” show, you helped to add a different level of fun to the event.

Appreciation Dinner Recognizing our 2024 Volunteers
On February 7, a Celebration of Winter took place inside the Center. Attendees braved subzero temperatures, gale-force winds, blizzard conditions, and several feet of snow. In reality, the temperature was 28, the wind was 6 mph, and there was no snow in the air or ground. Yet the attendees braved the weather for our first still Snowball dance. They enjoyed a fine meal, experienced a simulated snowball fight with realistic large white plush snowballs, and danced until the DJ started packing his equipment, capping off a pleasant evening. The pictures speak for themselves.
Doing the car show was the brainchild of Dave Jaskot. After a meeting with other car enthusiasts at the Baker Barn in Carleton, ours, along with others, several dates for car shows were finalized. Things came together quickly with Dave's guidance and the help of club members like Alice, Clayton, and Kenny from the band. Club members did a phenomenal job of passing out flyers during other car shows, hooked us up with vendors, and introduced me to Jen, the ice cream lady; Christine, a volunteer at the Humane Society; and Penny, who makes some fantastic wreaths. What a great group of people to work with to bring this event to the Center to support the Adult Day Service program. I can't thank all of them enough.
In addition to the work of those associated with the Center, there are several other moving parts. Al VanWasenhova, the Township Supervisor, graciously allowed us to use the grassy area around the walking path, provided the ground conditions were suitable. Despite the rainy days leading up to the show, the weather was perfect, with the shade from the trees, a gentle breeze, and the band playing under the pavilion. There were guest appearances by Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline, Elvis, Mike, and Cheryl. There were Seventy impressive cars representing 100 years of innovation on display. We had several vendors, the sheriff and fire departments, and the Humane Society pups.
Lastly, a heartfelt thanks to all the car enthusiasts and our friends from Bakers Barn who came out to support the program; your generosity was greatly appreciated.

Mr. Al celebrated his 100th birthday with his fellow pool players who kept his party a secret from him many months. In a fitting tribute to Mr. Al, Senator Joe Bellino Jr. said “Mr. Al wore many hats, each one a testament to his versatility and work ethic. From grinding grain across Michigan to riveting planes at the Willow Run Bomber Plant, from running his own insurance agency in Ida, MI. to overseeing construction projects for Gratton Construction of Monroe, particularly intriguing tale stands out – his brief stint as a professional baseball player. Signed by the Boston Braves, Mr. Al’s passion for family triumphed over his love for the game, leading him back home to his beloved Wilma and sons. In his leisure, Mr. Al found joy in the camaraderie of the Frenchtown Center for Active Adults, where he became a fixture in the men’s pool leagues.”
In addition to the Special Tribute from Senator Bellino, Mr. Al also received a Special Tribute from State Representative James DeSana. Frenchtown Charter Township Supervisor Al VanWashenova was present to also pay tribute to Mr. Al. Thanks to the pool league for sponsoring this milestone for Mr. Al, his son Gary, other family members, friends and of course his fellow pool players for attending.
