NEW: Walk Fit
Walk Fit Class - Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Looking to add something new to your fitness routine this winter? Try our New Walk Fit class, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10a.m. to 11a.m. in the dining room. If you are interested in this class, see Lisa for more details. As with all our exercise programs, please check with your doctor to see if this class is right for you.
According to an article published by the Mayo Clinic, walking is a gentle, low-impact cardio exercise that can ease you into a higher level of fitness and health. It's safe and simple. Regular brisk walking can provide many of the same benefits as more vigorous exercises, such as jogging. For example, just 21 minutes of walking a day can reduce your risk of heart attack by 30%. Walking burns calories and trims the waistline, but it's also important for your lymphatic and immune systems.

Chair Yoga
Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M., Lead by Lisa Ghigliazza
This class is for all fitness levels.
Chair Yoga Explained: Yoga has been well-researched for its health benefits for those with hypertension, osteoporosis, arthritis, hormonal changes, and other conditions that tend to impact seniors. According to the Mayo Clinic, as we get older, we naturally lose strength and flexibility, which can in turn affect our sense of stability and balance. Fortunately, yoga is known for its ability to help improve muscle tone, flexibility, coordination, and balance. The key for seniors, especially those who are new to yoga, is to find ways to practice it that allows them to feel stable and supported throughout the practice. Anyone can practice with a chair – either sitting down or using the chair for support in standing poses. Remember that each person’s body develops differently over time, and we all bring in different health concerns and physical conditions. For example, hypertension or glaucoma may preclude forward bending poses. You may want to avoid bearing weight on injured knees or arthritic joints. Please let your instructor know what limitations you may have before you begin each session. Yoga should not cause pain or strain on your body. Listen to your body and do not push past what is safe for you. We will be focusing on breathing, stretching, and improving muscle tone, coordination, balance, and flexibility. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, February 8th at 10:00am to start your journey to improved health. Please contact Lisa if you have any questions.

Geri-Fit®
Which class will be right for you?
Which class will be right for you?
10:00 to 11:00 is the best class for people just getting started with Geri-fit and will offer a variety of seated strength training exercises and instruction.
11:00 to 12:00 will offer more variety in exercises and add the challenge of more repetitions and supersets as well as performing some standing exercises.
Continuing to challenge our muscles with regular strength training is the best way to maintain our quality of life and reduce muscle loss as we age. Balance, leg strength and core training will be included in both classes.
If you have any questions, feel free to discuss with Kathleen what class would be best for you. Both classes allow participants to advance and modify exercises at their own pace.

Outdoor Activities
Bocce Ball
We are excited to offer our members the opportunity to play Bocce Ball here at Frenchtown Center for Active Adults. Bocce is lawn or yard game that's played with eight weighted balls aimed at a smaller target ball, or pallino. The objective of the game is to earn points by getting your balls closer to the pallino than your opponent does. Bocce is a calming, competitive way to spend a few hours outdoors in the pleasant company of friends. Just behind the center is a court which will be open for our members to use, and we have the equipment, as well. If you already know how to play and would be interested in showing others how to play, please see Lisa Ghigliazza. There is a sign-up sheet in Lisa’s office for those interested in playing.
Pickleball
Frenchtown Township has two lined Pickleball courts within walking distance of the Frenchtown Center for Active. Members can check out the equipment to play anytime Monday – Friday, from 8:30am – 3:00pm, if the courts are available. Equipment must be returned to the Center by 4:00pm. PLEASE come into the Center to scan in before going to the court and to sign-out prior to leaving. Pickleball is fun, social and friendly! The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn. We recommend bringing water and sunscreen.
